It seems they are firm about sticking to their earlier statement.Īdobe stated with the release of LR6 that they would no longer update the standalone version for upgrades/new features, only for bugs, etc. They also stated that LR6 will be their last standalone version. and that only the CC version of LR6 would get anything new. Adobe really better think this through.Īdobe stated with the release of LR6 that they would no longer update the standalone version for upgrades/new features, only for bugs, etc. I've been with LR for a while, but started out making a new catalog for every shoot and was told I should have a giant one, but my concern was portability because at some point either LR would be discontinued or all my stuff wouldn't fit on a single drive so I decided to just have 2 catalogs each year (one for family pictures and other for my own personal stuff) since that's how I organized them in my hard drive (and I can just give a backup hard drive of family stuff to family members without giving them my personal shoots) so I wouldn't give it a second thought to move to something else if the time came and I wouldn't need to update my entire catalog since I already have exported JPGs for quick access. This certainly is a slap in the face to those that upgraded. I don't use photoshop and who knows how high the subscription charges wil be in the future, plus the subscription model might change and you might get charged for each additional feature. I don't really want to do all that work of sorting it out and then be stuck with lightroom. This is making me think about whether I should stay with lightroom or buy another product. I have quite a few old hard drives with photos on them in no particular filing/order. Interesting, I only started using Lightroom about a year ago.

Is this pretty much the beginning of the end for standalone users? Anybody on here moved to Capture Pro from LR? How hard was it?

I would understand if after 2 years they added new features in a new version but for a lot of people who bought 6.1 last week, this should leave a bad taste in their mouth so I'm not not going to upgrade this round. I was on the fence about LR 6 since I already have 5, but I think this pretty much cements it that Adobe is trying to strong arm us into moving to CC and in that case the only way to get LR is to also to pay for Photoshop which I very rarely use. I'm not a lawyer either but every other software I own adds new functionality not originally advertised (Windows adds new features all the time for instance) so I see this as a copout.

This is a somewhat minor update as far as I'm concerned but Adobe apparently considers it a new feature and is using the Sarbanes-Oxley Act as their excuse to not include it in the perpetually licensed version.
